Stay in London: One Aldwych

London is my home away from home, and also home to many incredible hotels. Amongst them is a 5-star hotel One Aldwych, centrally located in the heart of London in Covent Garden, where I had the pleasure of staying for a weekend getaway.

From the moment I stepped foot inside the property, an Edwardian building now protected by English Heritage, I was welcomed by the beautiful interior designed by Mary Fox Linton, lots and lots of pretty flower arrangements made by an in-house florist, and contemporary artworks in which there are over 400 of in and around the hotel.

I checked into my Studio Suite, a lovely circular suite with birds-eye views overlooking the Waterloo Bridge. I thoroughly enjoyed watching over the lively city, and waking up to gorgeous views every morning. The hotel of course has various types of rooms from deluxe and executive rooms to dome/terrace suites (learn more here).

Being located in the vibrant theatre district, The Lobby Bar at One Aldwych is a popular spot for pre or post-theatre drinks. With the atmosphere, beautiful live music, and so many fun-themed cocktail drinks on the menu, the Lobby Bar was a perfect choice for our night.

We also checked out Eneko, a modern Spanish restaurant with fresh and creative Basque dishes by chef Eneko Atxa. As recommended by our waiter, we ordered the Bay Scallops (which is a work of art in its own, as you can see below), but my favorite was the “Txipirones en su Tinta” which is a Basque style squid in ink sauce. For dessert, we ordered the “Torrija”, a Basque style vanilla sponge cake with caramel crumble ice cream. I must have looked quite passionate about this ice cream, because they were kind enough to give me another scoop.

To top off my stay, I enjoyed a much-needed relaxing massage session at the Health Club, where they offer a range of luxurious spa treatments including facials, and body treatments. A swimming pool and a 24-hour gym for hotel guests are also available in the Health Club.

Lastly, what I liked most about the hotel was definitely the impeccable service I was lucky enough to receive. It wasn’t so difficult to feel right at home here at One Aldwych, as I was welcomed and greeted every time with a smile, and by my name. Needless to say, the staffs here are very switched-on and genuinely attentive in meeting guests’ needs, which I very much appreciated.

I really couldn’t have asked for a better stay and I would like to take this moment to thank all the staff members at One Aldwych for the lovely experience.
